Hello,
we have a new prototype in our Articles section demonstrating texture distortion with Flash 8. The example is based on previous studies by André Michelle and it was submitted by Thomas Pfeiffer.

Also you will find four new game reviews: Heli Attack 3, Motherload, Alex in Danger and Trapshoot.

The new year has begun, and it’s time to publish some new resources.

In the Articles section you can find a long, interesting article written by Scott Bilas from Oberon Games Studio in which he tells his experience with building games in Flash. The title is What About Flash? Can We Really Make Games With It?.

The Games section has been updated with Snowman Salvage, a funny drag-and-drop game developed by Paul Croft. Your ratings and comments about it will be appreciated!

Particle system prototype

Just before the end of the year, we publish this interesting “particle system” prototype developed by Pekka Sandborg.
It features:

very fast simulation based on delta time interval and verlet integration;
Flash 8 bitmap/filter/blendMode visuals;
short, decent and commented AS2 code.

The new Spotlight is online. This month we take a look at a very popular genre in web-games: turn-based card games.
Ederon is a great example of multiplayer card-battle game, it features a huge number of cards, many different classes of players with many characters to choose from.

We interviewed its creator and developer, Daniel L. Esteves Lema, and asked him to talk about the challanges he’s faced in the creation of such a large project.

After a quite long period without new games/tutorials, due to the time it took to complete the new version of gotoAndPlay, now it’s time to restart publishing the submissions of game developers.
Here we go with Radar Rik In Escape From The Caverns Of Poor Lighting, a sort of “Lander” clone with a lot of improvements developed by Chris Underwood.
You can play it and read our comment in the Games section.

Hello,
we updated the latest forum sections “The code library” and “The Lab” with some useful material. In the code library you will find a new AS 2.0 class for handling asynchronous timeline events created by Lapo, called TimeController. You will be able to download the sources and see it in action in a simple example.

In The Lab you will find dozens of interesting links that will get you started on the new Actionscript 3.0, the new re-packaged flash framework and the flash player 8.5 (a.k.a. as Actionscript Virtual Machine 2).

Version 3.0 !

Welcome to gotoandplay.it version 3.0!
With this new upgraded edition of the website we’d like to add more interaction between users, allowing more feedback comments and better game rating system.

From version 3.0 the game votations will start from scratch with a better system, similar to what we use in our Game Reviews.
Before we kiss goodbye to our old rating system we’ve designated the “top 20” games submitted by our users! You can check the best games in the gotoAndPlay 2005 Awards. We’d like to congratulate with the top three titles and thank all the submitters and supporters of the website.

News and forums:
Among the other enhacements we now have a cool new blogging system and new forums sections devoted to “experiments” with the latest Actionscript 3.0, a “Code Library” and a sections for job offers and requests.

Game Reviews:
Another important aspect of gAP() 3.0 will be game reviews. We’ve paused them for a while because our review system needed a few improvements. Now they’re done and we’re ready to start again. We’ll be able to extend the ability of making game reviews to all those of you who are interested. More details coming in the next days.

Links section:
The links section has been reorganized in categories and we’ll constantly add new resources as we find them.
Feel free to suggest any interesting game or game-dev related website.

New skins:
Oh yeah! Of course.
We’ve reskinned the site a little bit, paying homage to some of our all-time favourites games.
Scroll the homepage to the bottom to check them all! ( … sorry MS IE users! No PNG shadows for you )

New learning material:
In the past weeks we’ve stopped the addition of new contents in order to concentrate on the new version.
A lot of new articles and games will pop up in the next days!
